Hobbies
Ok, so I have a wide range of interests. This you might gather just by reading the blog and all the categories. However, I want to list some of them here.
Police and Forensics
At some point, I got really interested in detective work. I don’t mean a thin surface interest like watching police shows such as CSI, but I think it started that way long ago. I read a lot of true crime and forensic science books. Science is awesome. Forensic science is awesome-er.
Bikes and Freestyle
I’ve been riding flatland freestyle since I was about 15 or so. Which I guess means it’s been 13 years. I’ve taken time away from biking several times. When you get married, you just change your routine a little, so I haven’t jumped on the bike a lot in the past couple years. It’s a lot of fun. You might catch the XGames sometimes and probably the ramps are what you are most familiar with, but my riding is strictly flatland tricks. I’ve never been good at jumping, but I have a few ground tricks dialed really well. It’s a wierd sport. It’s very much an individual sport, and you can spend so much time working on small tricks. Basically 13 years of riding amounts to about four minutes of actual pulled tricks. So much for so little it seems, but it’s really so enjoyable that all the work is for yourself anyway, not whether or not you get a chance to show off.
Web Development
I think the internet and web development are extremely fun and important. It’s really cool to be apart of and witness one of the biggest and important changes the world has seen in a hundred years. I love graphics, I love publishing and hearing what others like or do with the information I make. Making webpages feels very much like it’s in the dark age right now. Eventually I think it will be as easy as designing print layout by drawing and typing directly into the spaces. It’s important to get ready for those kinds of things as a web developer.
Movies and video making
Ok, so I haven’t done that much of it in my life, but I think about making movies a lot. It used to be my dream to work in Hollywood, but I realized after a while that I don’t really find most of that process very attractive. I do however like to make smaller scale videos and when I can make a few bucks on them, so much the better.
Electronic Music
I love electronica, ambient techno and all the other wierd sub categories of this music. There are so many great moods to explore. So much feeling that comes to me by listening. I don’t so much think country, rock and roll, or even a lot of classical can do as much for me. You have to mix the genres though because they all speak to you in some ways.
Helping People
I think when you have interests and skills in certain areas, it is a given that you will be helping others if they find themselves in need of your expertise. What I didn’t know until I started honing my skills is how much enjoyment I would get out of making even little improvements, or offering small favors for people. I have gone out of my way countless times for people and it’s never a feeling of loss or like I was being used. The choice made to want to help, always resulted in the learning of some other skill I didn’t expect, or a referral, or simply having a good time doing whatever it was. It was MORE fun because it was volunteer. Many times, I’ll offer help without asking. Then it really gets fun because people tend to go out of their way for you.
I don’t need people to do much for me so anything people do to thank me is always a pleasant surprise. It’s contagious when you do these sort of things too. Others follow in your footsteps. I always want to remember that when I feel like I’m doing too many favors, how it makes a difference in people on several levels. As long as you can learn when a project is going to take more time than you have, it’s a good path to follow. Sure sometimes you have to say no, but if you can manage that, I think it’s always going to be a positive outcome.
I have WAY too many interests so this spot will never be completed. I’d rather live life than ponder over this page. So get outta here will ya?
