some free tools

I’ve heard about this program for a long time. It’s called Art Rage and I never thought of looking into it. Tonight I finally did, and it is so well thought out that I had to post it. This free painting program lets you take advantage of full screen and makes it easy and fun to paint your own pictures.
You can import pictures for tracing, or bring in a digital picture and wash it out using various techniques. You can mimic real paintbrushes and the tools are so simple. I’ve thought about a million things I would like to paint. Maybe I’ll get around to it.. yeah right. I’ve got to tell my coworker don about it. He can show his kids this program. In case you are curious about the quality, check out the gallery of images here and here.
Did you know you can download a free version of ProTools for audio editing. ProTools is the program of sound studios. ProTools Free limits you to 8 audio tracks and 48 tracks of midi. Aww is that all, only 48 midi tracks?! Me thinks this would be a good program to practice with, even if Audacity is a FOSS multitrack editor for anyone. ProTools free comes for macos9 and windows.
Centarsia Photo Mosaic software allows you to make those huge collages from thousands of little pictures. This is the first one free I’ve seen. I’m sure there are many more though. Windows only. sorry everybody.
I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, but it’s almost a cliche now to see one of those. I remember back in like ‘94 where this was done by hand and it was extremely innovative. Software renditions of these mosaics have never been as cool as a genuine one.
